Leading Australian law firm MinterEllison was today named Official Lawyers of Invictus Games Sydney 2018, being staged next year from 20-27 October.
The appointment, which encompasses broad-ranging legal and rights protection services, is part of a broader partnership between MinterEllison and the Games.
The firm will also become an Official Supporter of the Australian teams competing at the Invictus Games this year in Toronto and in 2018 in Sydney.
Founded by Prince Harry, the Invictus Games is an international sporting event for wounded, injured and ill service personnel and veterans. The Games harness the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation, and generate a wider understanding and respect for those who serve their country and the family and friends who support them.
"The Invictus Games are truly inspirational. They are about much more than just sport and MinterEllison’s partnership with Invictus Games Sydney 2018 is about much more than just legal work," MinterEllison Chief Executive Tony Harrington AM said.
"We are proud and honoured to have been chosen to join the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 family. Partnering with clients to provide innovative solutions is what we're about at MinterEllison. This partnership is something that every person in our firm will take enormous pride in and be inspired by."
The appointment announced today builds on MinterEllison's significant experience in the sports sector with the firm also acting as Official Lawyers to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
MinterEllison's services to the organisers of Invictus Games Sydney 2018 will be provided by a core team of secondees, who will work hand-in-hand with the General Counsel for the Sydney Games to help deliver a successful and memorable event.
"We are extremely pleased to have the experienced team from MinterEllison helping us deliver a memorable Invictus Games Sydney 2018. "Together, our mission is to inspire the Australian community to embrace our wounded, injured and ill service personnel and veterans, their family and friends and create a positive lasting legacy as we celebrate their unconquerable spirit,"Patrick Kidd OBE, CEO Invictus Games Sydney 2018, said.
The MinterEllison team will be led by Paula Robinson, a partner in the firm’s Sports and Entertainment Law practice, and the project will be managed by Senior Associate Jessica Norris, a rising star in Sports and Entertainment law.
Ms Robinson is also spearheading the firm’s partnership with the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games – a unique service delivery model where MinterEllison's embedded team advises across a broad range of areas, including sponsorship, brand protection, broadcasting, ticketing, licensing, ceremony production, venue use, overlay construction and major procurements.
